Consoles

Games consoles have really taken off in the past ten years or so, from cartridge games consoles to consoles that have similar capabilities to computers, such as the Playstation 3. Consoles are arguably an easier type of gaming to get into for a more casual gamer than a computer, as computer gaming needs computers of a certain level of speed and disk space capacity in order for the game to work properly. Consoles are readily available, and do not require customisation in order to play games. They can also be much cheaper, as you will only need to pay once for the machine, as opposed to the frequent updates to software and hardware you will eventually need to make if you have a computer.

That is not to say that console models remain the same. In fact, a new version of the console (whichever it may be) is often brought out every few years or so, depending on the console itself. This is how the console updates itself, as opposed to the chop-and-change type of customisation needed with a computer. However, this is where consoles can get expensive. If you intend to keep up with the latest model of console, then you will need to buy each new model every time it comes out.

Consoles often take up less space than computers, and can be attached to a computer or TV screen, so are arguably more versatile. They are a good choice of gaming device for sporadic and prolific gamers alike.
